Rock'n'roll Sea Love & Sun !

Lord Bishop Rocks played yesterday 25.11 here in Nice ! Too much LOVE, GOOD Vibes and Fuckin' GREAT MUSIC ! The audience was really happy and La Source Team ... THEY LOVE HIM ! and we love Yann, Bea, Illys, Alexandra and the others ..

The day after, after a nice chinese lunch in one excellent restaurant in front of the beach, we spent all the day at the sea playing with the stones, laughing like kids ...the sun was shining...the sky was blue !

The Staggers will play at the fabulous International PRIMITIVE FESTIVAL June 20 - 23 Rotterdam, Holland

Material for a new album (12 new tracks) have been recorded mainly in Paris - label & date of issue still unknown

With their new material " WELLFIRE: Séance for Fatal Lovers" Tav Falco prepares for this important new recording carefully. Alex Chilton and Jim Dickinson produced each three albums with Tav, and these have been essential steps in his recording career. Yet to ensure his new direction, Tav will produce this record in Europe with his other producer, Michael Perry Allen. Tav has engaged him to collaborate with chief engineer, Liam Watson, to record WELLFIRE at Toe-Rag Studios in London.
Toerag Studios is an original studio equipped with late fifties/early sixties components. Production values are oriented toward radio airplay in the tradition of recording excellence pioneered by Joe Meek and Phil Spector. But it is not only the vintage equipment, which makes this studio so interesting. In fact, it is the engineering expertise of Liam Watson that distinguishes the resultant recordings. (White Stripes triumphal album ELEPHANT was recorded there in 2002/2003). Many critics in the music press now especially mention the sound of ELEPHANT, and Toerag as the studio responsible.
The idea is to bring two sounds together, the early UK sixties with its lightness and rhythmic intensity combined with the deeper R&B/Soul of Memphis, to forge a new and unique synthesis.


Thus far Tav Falco has released 9 albums and 16-singles including a numbered edition, boxed set, several produced and released by New Rose & SPV, and he has appeared in four feature length movies. The band has been performing steadily for 2-decades in North America, Europe, and Australia.


With the new album Tav takes a big step away from his "Rock'n'Roll trash" image. He is feeling that a change has come. The earlier fans are waiting for his "masterpiece"; the younger fans want to know the next steps from what they have already seen in the stage shows. No one is waiting for just "another" Tav Falco album like the rock/country blues record, PANTHER PHOBIA, released in 2000 by In The Red, which marks this trans-ition. The new Tav Falco album should start where SHADOW DANCER ended, previously released in 1995 by Intercord/EMI.
There are two strong videos, which show the way and the new direction: Born Too Late and especially Love'sLast Warning . (Both shown on MTV Europe and on music TV in North America).
WELLFIRE should be recorded with his longtime touring band Panther Burns. Typically the Panther Burns band features an international line-up.

The Gitanes or The Further adventures of Vietnam Veterans gonna play legendary shows in France ! The Kaiser (Nova Express Records Big Boss)  and  Mark Embatta  are still full of psychedelick punk'n'roll  and are ready for to Rock. Their single "Bang, Bang" show us their very original Sonny Bono & Cher cover (made after by Nancy Sinatra) .

Psicofasicos De Bolivia: Go-Go A 4000 Metros! (Producciones del Condor- LP)

Yes, that's right, Bolivia!!! So you're all hip and happenin' enough out there to be familiar with Latin garage grooves right? Well you're spoiled for choice this month. Not only are there six groovy volumes of the Psychodelicias series (see the following review) but also this here slab o' wax, which would have made a great volume seven! Fourteen of the gnarliest, grittiest and outright RAW garage tracks you're ever likely to hear from south of the border.
The liners (in both Spanish and English) tell us that these toons all date from 1966-'69 "from incaic go-go to the psychophasic sound". Kick off track, Los Daltons' instro 'Alto Y Seco' has the trademark lack of sophistication that tells us it was recorded inside an empty baked-bean tin, but this hits where you want to feel it. In fact, the whole album has a very full and rich sound which implies a decent vinyl to vinyl transfer job has been done on it, despite the apologies for the surface sound (man, that's obligatory for atmosphere!). You wonder how records of any kind were made at all in a country where even in the big cities the power was regularly shut off at 11:00pm every night and where farm carts still outnumbered cars on the roads. Groups like Grupo 606 had to make their own instruments before they could get to play anything! In common with Warsaw Pact Europe of the time, Bolivian police in La Paz and other cities like Cochabamba especially looked out for local long-hairs to practice their shearing techniques on. In general, not a well-disposed environment to start a band, but plenty of reasons to want to!
This whole set is troglodyte magic. Los Ecos for instance featured an eleven year-old girl as their drummer, but she sounds like any demented howling teen and keeps a damned good 4/4 beat. Los Dhag Dhags' 'Tipo Sicodelico' is a psych creeper, but most of this stuff is primal (think Peru's Los Saicos, for instance). Groups like The Donkeys, Loving Darks, Los Tennyson and (I kid you not) Los Bunny Boy's Hots presumably grabbed any opportunity that presented itself to do their thang. Maybe it was the thinness of the air at 4000 metres above sea level, but something sure put the dementure into these cats! A must have comp and I insist there is a volume 2 soon!
